The art of painting is an artwork by Jan Vermeer that basically represents an artist on his work. He is sitting on a stool on his studio painting the picture of a woman. A model stands in front of him on the left side of the painting posing for him. There are several pieces of furniture and ornate curtains which hang from the walls. Glory of St. Ignatius, on the other hand, is a painting by Andrea Pozzo which presents human figures in mid-air surrounded by a magnificent piece of architecture whose pillars and archways stretch into the background making the viewers feel as if they are staring upwards. The humans are in various states of motion with the background seemingly stretching into the deep cloudy sky. 

Media and technique 

The Art of Painting is an oil-on-canvas piece of work which reveals the artist’s mastery in representing realistic scenes. In Glory of St. Ignatius, on the other hand, the artist has employed imagination to bring out an unreal picture that presents people in angelic form where they appear to be airborne.

Color 

The Art of Painting is produced in cool colors that blend to form a picture which signifies tranquility. The blue color, for example, is distributed in the curtains as well as the model and the painting that the artist is working on. Glory of St. Ignatius also uses cool colors to represent the human bodies, the architecture and the cloudy background. 

Brush stroke or texture 

The artwork is produced from fine brush strokes which represent the scene as real as possible. The artist is careful to highlight the minute details such as the shadows which reveal that the light falls from the left side. Glory of St. Ignatius also comprises of fine strokes which communicate the fine features such as the garments worn by the subjects and the straight pillars.
