Summary
The case study illustrates a company where the executive has been reviewing regional manager applications. The position will involve coordinating and overseeing operations of a large part of the western United States. Finally, the committee made its selections and planned to announce its choice the following week. John Deer was one of the people selected as his colleagues described him as genius and brilliant. Even better, he had consistent records of distinction and excellence in every job he performed for the organization. Deer appeared to be a polite and quiet person who hardly attended social functions, and the little times he did, he was never accompanied by his wife. The manager received a call from Edith, John's wife who was terrified and was pleading with the management to consider her husband for the regional manager position. Edith feels that the position has made her husband very tensed and it is the reason why he fights her. It is unfortunate the children witnessed the incident, which made them terrified. Edith further explained how she had been battered for so long. She firmly believes that if her husband got the promotion, he would feel happy and things will be better and work out for the family.
Argument and Ethical Obligation
The issue presented in this case study is quite sensitive to the management and calls for a sound mind when making the right decision. The ‘human’ aspect should be called upon in human resources. As such, I firmly believe that it is not a big issue for colleagues and the administration to get to know the problems their workforce is going through, even their weaknesses. Not favoring and siding with one person should be paramount in solving such an issue. John Deer plays a significant role in the company, and his efforts are evident even to his colleagues. In fact, his colleagues identify him as genius and brilliant. John Deer also has a consistent record of excellence in every responsibility and job he undertakes. No wonder he qualifies for the regional manager position.

Nonetheless, his colleagues and the management did not know about his personal life until Edith his wife called the office. Therefore, in my opinion, the management should go ahead and announce him as the next regional manager because he qualifies and as a way of rewarding his efforts that he has contributed to the success of the success of the company. Moreover, the management should not ignore everything that Edith has said but reach out to help. Legal consideration, in this case, will not help.
The ethical obligation for the manager in this case study is to make the right judgment and announcing John Deer as the next regional manager because he qualifies for that. Whatever the management has discovered from Edith should not deter or change their decision. The other ethical obligation that the management has in this scenario is to offer help to John Deer without judging him genuinely. The management should hear what John has to say concerning the issue. I believe, he would be willing to open up especially after the promotion because he would want to safeguard his position. He has worked hard to earn the position. For instance, the company can pay for him and the wife for counseling sessions where the couple seeks help concerning their marital issues.
