Animal testing, which is the use of animals in research for purposes of furthering human concerns like the safety of cosmetic products and drug efficacy, is fraught with complicated and controversial arguments. While animal testing has clear and undeniable benefits to humankind, it at the same time involves cruel and inhumane procedures. An example of the good part of animal testing is that it has enabled the development of drugs to treat and manage deadly diseases that include but are not limited to herpes simplex, polio, malaria, hepatitis B, rabies, lung diseases, heart diseases, and mumps to mention just but a few. Also, animal testing has enabled the development of anesthesia, which is one of the essential techniques in medical surgery. Another significant good part of animal testing is that the nutrition of cats and dogs has been improved after repeated animal tests.

On the other hand, the discovery of new medicines and vaccines claims the lives of millions of animals every year across the globe. Animal testing has been associated with a sad part because it violates the animal rights when it comes to animal testing ethics. Examples of the bad part of animal testing include animals going through severe pain during the tests and loss of eyesight and organ failure as a result of many months of torture among others. Being an animals' lover, I feel that animal testing is inhumane, unethical, and morally wrong. As such, there is a great need for the society to engage in and look for animal experimentation alternatives. Commercial safety testing is increasingly being done without the use of animals, and therefore, I believe that as technology moves forward, it is crucial to look for other means that will result in less and less need for animal experimentation.
