Globally, technology is making an impact on every sector. In most classrooms in the present world, it is not surprising to find children at Kindergarten using different technologies while interacting with their tutors. Such is the extent to which technology is revolutionizing the education sector. With the integration of technology in the present education system, the concept of 21st-century skills is becoming critical. The concept of 21st-century skills is defining what it means to have a digital education system. The concept of culture, diversity, digital tools in the education, and ability to use and interpret digital information is becoming a factor of consideration under the bracket of the 21st-century skills ( Price ‐ Dennis, Holmes & Smith, 2015). In this sense, the use of technology in the present classroom is becoming a necessity.
Reasons Why People Use Technology in Education
Technology is essential in the education system in the present world, and many reasons justify this assertion. Price ‐ Dennis, Holmes & Smith, (2015), claim that integrating technology in the classroom provides the students with a platform where they get an authentic audience with whom they can share their classroom experience and gain more knowledge about what they learn in the hospital. Technology is used in many ways in the education system. For instance, teachers can create a twitter handle page where they interact with students. The teachers thus can sign homework, creates groups, and also assign work to the student through the use of twitter. Students also can communicate with teachers, seek clarification, and even interact with other students despite their location when they sue twitter. Further, an application such as Flipboard is used in the classroom for creating news stories. Such encourages students to become creative while studying. Further, other websites and webpages such as Bitstrips are also used in the school and school for creating original comics to make topics interesting. Such web-pages are also useful for students with disabilities such as autism studentsas they can use them to make learning interesting and easy.
Technological devices such as iPhone, iPad, and others such as laptops are becoming essential to access different pieces of information. These are devices which are used in the classroom to enhance learning by accessing different channels such as YouTube, Podcast, and other platforms where the lectures have notes and also explain different concepts for the students. In this manner, the tutor can create a leaning video and upload them on YouTube, where the students can access them and watch them for their interactions. Further, these devices are also supplementing the printed texts. In this manner, they make it easy for research in different areas and, thus, is critical for the students.
The teachers use technologies to create a podcast, edit them, and also allow students to develop lesson templates, use PowerPoints to make presentations in the classrooms and also use emails to upload their work. Also, other programs can be created by technology such as StoryCorp, a program that serves as a mentor text that provides specific craft lessons about voice, music, tone, inflection, and narration. Further, technology also provides the teachers and students with an opportunity to record what they have learned during the lesson. In this manner, students use smartphones that have cameras and video and also voice recorders to capture the experiences and also replay them after the lesson to understand the teachers’explanations of specific areas deeply.
My case
I use technology in many ways in the classroom to facilitate and make my learning easy. First, I use my laptop to create presentations for my project that makes it easy when I have a presentation in the classroom. I also possess a smartphone and use it mostly for my internet research for different assignments and homework. I also use it to send emails and use the dropbox for myassignments. Other than those, I also use a laptop for typing my assignmentsand also making them presentable through word documents and PowerPoint presentations. Through my Twitter handle, I get anopportunity to interactwith my teachers and otherstudentsto get clarification about classwork. When I have an issue with any course, I use emails to contact my tutors and book appointments with them for discussion about areas where I feel I need help. Using my student portal and other accounts on Amazon and other websites, I can get access to e-books and e-journals that are critical for my leaning. These books are less expensive, easy to access, and thus make my leaning more comfortable at any place.
In this sense, technology helps me stay tuned with different areas in life. It makes me stay tuned to global issues and thus makes me relevant in the environment. With smartphones and laptops, I have access to different social information, interact with other people, stay updated politically, and also become relevant culturally. In this manner, I believe that technology is a tool that will influence my success at the end of my educational journey and also reshape my career in the future. With technology influencing every sector in the world, my career after the education journey entirely relies on technology. I see technology as a factor that will be part of me for my entire life.
