Scenario

The scenario chosen is my cousin, Jackson, who has ADHD disorder. Jackson is seven years old and suffers from hyperactivity and failure to concentrate both at school and at home. My action plan will engage participation by qualified personnel and seek medical help for Jackson and detailed information from participants form two agencies. The two community agencies include Owen Health Services and Sunshine Support Center. The two agencies are located in the community. I will similarly research secondary sources and compare information received from the specialists and that found in the libraries.

Execution of plan

My research has influenced my plan of action greatly as I have learned facts about ADHD disorder. Having a deeper understanding of the ADHD disorder, I can give pointers management tips for ADHD patients and thereby enhance wellness through management. Dealing with ADHD disorder requires medication and behavioral control to help the patient ease from the frustration caused by the disease (Klingberg et al, 2012). Traditional medical will play an essential role in managing ADHD. To achieve my objective of managing ADHD disorder in my ailing cousin, I will require the help of two bodies based in my community that will provide information and guidance. These community agencies are equipped with prior experience and the right mechanisms for managing ADHD. I have decided to approach a local health facility and a support center for patients with ADHD and other disorders. These facilities have conducted due research on ADHD and having dealt with ADHD cases in the past; I believe that they will assist me to execute my action plan against ADHD. Accessing the health facility and the support center for ADHD will require authorization by the relevant offices (Pappas, 2013). Getting authorization means that I will have to write official letters to the hospital administration and the support center to request for interaction with the appropriate personnel on ADHD.

Part of the reason for contacting the two communities is to get verified information on the ways of managing ADHD and to gain practical lessons for the same. Apart from studying ADHD and its management, I believe that my cousin will improve with more medical attention and behavioral change. The medical attendants at the two facilities are equipped to provide guidance on the psychological processes that help in managing ADHD. I intend to interact with a nutritionist at the health facility who will provide details on the best foods to give my ailing cousin. The nutritionist will also advise on those foods to avoid while cultivating his wellness.

Owen Health Services is a facility that renown for treatment of mental disorders among in children. I believe the facility will conduct an assessment on my cousin and they will give recommendations on the best management practices to improve Jackson’s condition. I will approach the administration with a letter from Jackson’s doctor that describes Jackson’s situation and his medical history. Apart from getting medical help for Jackson, I intend to interact widely with the practitioners on ADHD disorder, and I will include this request in my letter to the hospital administration. According to my research, Owen Health Services charges $750 for admission and treatment of ADHD. This amount caters for bed, meals, physiological exercise, nutritional counseling, and medicine.

Sunshine Support Center is the second facility that I will engage in my mission to execute my action plan. I chose Sunshine Support center after a background check on its reputation and its effectiveness to participants. The agency has over sixty groups that meet regularly to provide support to each other according to the common challenges that they face. Sunshine Support Center is a center where people affected by social and medical challenges regarding mental disorders. The participants share their stories and their progress and this way they encourage each other. This center will be suitable for Jackson’s mother who will interact with other parents facing similar challenges and get professional help to deal with the psychological effects of ADHD. Sunshine Support Center is free for anyone to join but the management requires letters from a doctor stating the presence of a mental condition of the family member. With this information in mind, I will attach a letter from Jackson’s doctor together with my written application to have myself and Jackson’s mother, Janet to join the support center. I will introduce myself in the letter addressed to the head of operations, Sunshine Support Center and included the reason why I would like to accompany Janet to the sessions. I hope that the letter will generate positive feedback from the operations manager and that Janet will get emotional and psychological help from other participants.

Obstacles that I may encounter

In my efforts to execute my action plan, I expect to meet challenges. I intend to face these challenges and to overcome them. I will exercise temperance and deal with the obstacles accordingly to achieve my objectives. One of the problems that I may face will be waiting for approval of my requests at the two facilities. The persons in charge of the two agencies may seek consultation from higher personnel, and this will lengthen the time taken to access the agencies. Having a set time-frame for my execution plan, consultation and delays by the officers in charge of the two agencies will alter my ideas and the outcomes.

Another challenge that I may experience is the agencies’ inability to meet my expectations regarding information and management. The medical practitioners, for example, may withhold some medical information from me due to the confidentiality purposes (Connor & Doerfler 2014). Withheld information will make me feel left out of the process as much as I will gather some info from Janet. I will, however, manage the information that I will be able to retrieve and I will give optimum support to Janet and Jackson in their pursuit of wellness. Apart from focusing on the challenges discussed, I will maximize on the opportunities and make the most out of the action plan.

Response

Following m research on ADHD, its features and management, I am entirely convinced that the condition requires a keen mind to deal with its influences. Having a child who suffers from ADHD disorder is challenging, and the child cannot respond like other children in his or her age. The hyperactivity indicated by children suffering from ADHD disorder requires extra attention and therapy to manage the condition. Parenting is a passionate responsibility being that a parent must nurture their children whether they have special needs or not. This reality has provoked deep admiration for all parents and their contribution to their children’s growth. It is my deepest desire that Jackson will recover with regular medical attention and proper diet. I appreciate science and its contributions to health and specifically children suffering from ADHD disorder. Previous research has provided management plans for ADHD and psychological guidelines to parents and caregivers. I would urge all parents who have children with special needs to seek support mechanisms where they can support each other emotionally and psychologically. Engaging in support groups will enable parents to give hope to their children and be the indication of hope over ADHD and other disorders.
