After watching the videos, the common "themes/ideas" include customized workflow and control, socialized learning, global connections, and creativity and innovations. The themes work towards providing hands-on experience, stimulating high-level cognitive processes of thinking, making connections across domains of learning, and providing opportunities for rich imaginative interaction (Isenberg, 2017). These themes clearly seek to enhance the learning experience and promote decision making. For instance, by using an iPad, a child gains skills on choosing apps and using them for creative work such as writing stories and incorporating illustrations (Isenberg, 2017). Similarly, it helps capture the kid’s imagination and thinking through the various problem-solving details related to a task. Further, use of blogs and Photoshop shows the various ways through which technology and interactive media aids in advancing the children’s development. In the STEAM education overview, creativity is highly featured as a crucial aspect in enabling children to gain mathematical, technological, scientific and engineering knowledge. As such, these themes work effectively to enhance learning and interactions.
I think that primary schools that teach K-3rd grade use do not use these "themes/ideas". The reason is that they seek to foster creativity and in the process, they ignore the other spheres of learning. As such, I think it would be necessary to teach them on keeping in touch with the new habits used in connecting and learning. That it is impossible to have a single app that fulfills all the needs of learning and therefore they need themes for the development of innovative minds in the learners (Howell, 2011). Further, they need to understand how various themes contribute towards achieving the classroom’s objectives and overall learning outcomes. Therefore, Primary grade teachers need to use different avenues of learning and interaction to understand the importance of these themes/ideas. In the long run, it will be beneficial to learners as the themes cut across different subjects and projects.
