Transgenderism and intersexuality are discourses that dominate the debate on sexuality and human rights, but few people show interest in the biblical interpretation of the concepts. The bible does not clearly illustrate the cases of men trapped in women’s bodies or vice versa, an observation that justifies the lack of outright condemnation of transgenderism. The bible is very categorical about gender being defined as male or female as created by God in Genesis 1:27. Nevertheless, the bible has significant instances that highlight the existence of transgenderism though not in a manner that depicts the exact terms of the issue in the 21st century. For instance, the eunuchs in Matthew 19 are referred to as men without the ability to sire or those who were castrated. In this regard, transgenderism is viewed as a creational anomaly, a reality of a fallen world, but is not condemned parse.

The differences in transgenderism and intersexuality are not clearly defined. The two differ in relation to variations from the male and female categorization of gender. Transgender refers to gender expression or identity that differs from that assigned at birth – the case of a male or female being trapped in the opposite gender’s body. Intersex refers to variations in sexual expression that create difficulty in the assignment of the male or female gender identity. On the other hand, transgenderism and intersexuality are similar because they both represent undefined gender presentations. According to Hornsby and Guest (2016), the existence of such queer representations of gender can be traced to the formless fluidity before God speaks in Genesis 1:1-3. The phenomenon translated as deep or abyss in Hebrew depicts a feminine noun that assumes a masculine form, and hence, gender-shifting.

The bible is against intersex individuals engaging in relationships or the church. The observation is founded on the concept that the binary cannot hold. Hornsby and Guest (2016) advanced the concept that biblically, nothing is either-or. The bible only recognizes male and female as gender categories. Truthfulness to God’s word means working in it without the confusion that would be displeasing to God. The bible cautions people that they do not have an inalienable right to do what they please with their bodies. Humans belong to God and should glorify him with their bodies. Therefore, embracing other gender identities outside the male and female domains is disgraceful (1 Corinthians 11:14-15).

Modern eunuchs today adopt a school of thought the deviates from the biblical dogma on creation. Rather than accepting themselves as the anomalies of creation, they seek to entrench their belief of the existence of other gendered expressions and identities. Such contravention of the bible represents the divergence from God by eunuchs in contemporary society. They use the humans’ right platform to entrench this belief and interpret the bible to suit their agenda.
