The documentary revolves around John, a cinematographer, and his wife Molly, a chef and organic food blogger who ventures into farming. Todd is their dog. The family is evicted from an apartment due to Todd's barking behavior. With help from well-wishers, the family purchases a 200 acre of land in California. The family decided to undertake biodynamic farming. With the help of Alan York and volunteers, John and Molly transform the abused and depleted farmland into a beautiful and productive yard ( Chester & Keats, 2018). The story teaches how family can change the lives of individuals. Just like how farming can transform a wasted land into productive, so is working with families.
In the documentary, the Apricot Lane Farm is transformed into a beautiful and productive farm due to effort from John, Molly, and volunteers. John and Molly could not have achieved this alone. In real life, working with families increases the chances of succeeding in life. Families are a source of motivation for individuals. They encourage individuals to venture into their dreams through unlimited support. John and Molly find a new family who helped them get land and practice farming. Besides, families are a source of empowerment. Alan York, local farmers, and volunteers provided assistance that made John and Molly's dream come true. Apart from that, the documentary teaches about good and bad times when working with families. Due to their love of nature, animals and plants have also become part of the John and Molly family. Their interaction with coyotes, chickens, gophers, birds, and other creatures is positive ( Chester & Keats, 2018). However, there is violence; for instance, John shoots a coyote. Also, animals fought among themselves for survival. Similarly, members of a family experience good days when interests align and bad ones if interests differ.
