Cell phones have increasingly become a necessity for many individuals across the globe. They impact on our lives both in a positive and negative way. The technically advanced cell phones has caused it to become a source of life for some people. It has major benefits including connecting people worldwide including business associates, friends, or family through social media or emails ( LeBlanc, Gunnell & Prince et al., 2017) Also, it allows people to access information in the internet such as reading books, creating documents, taking pictures, listen to music, watch videos, and play games. People are able to receive and place phone calls, take pictures, and storing data. It has made communication easy and its costs are low thus making it easy to exchange messages, share information including videos, pictures, and texts, and get all types of notifications ( Roy, Roy & De, (2017).

According to Annisette and Lafreniere (2017), d espite the positive effect of cell phone on our lives, it causes a number of negative consequences. For instance, studies reveal that most people spend an average of 3 hours every day staring at their cellphones, which equals to one day every week. This therefore causes it to be a useless distraction that consumes a lot of people’s time and make a person less productive. People keep complaining they do not have time to do anything but spend much of their time on their cellphones. It affects the ability of a person to concentrate on the assigned task thereby affecting their performance ( Lin & Chiang, 2017) . For example driving while using a cellphone has resulted in significant amounts of accidents occurring on our roads and even resulting in death. Also, it has impacted adversely on the social life of the people by causing disconnection in the real world. It puts people in a virtual world of interaction rather than human interactions ( Konok, Gigler, Bereczky & Miklósi, 2016). Therefore, despite cellphones having a lot of advantages and benefits in our contemporary society, it is unfortunate that most of its impacts are negative whereby it is dangerous, counterproductive, harmful, and time consuming.
