Chain of command shows the manner in which organizations such as government entities and military, traditionally structure their reporting relationships (Leslie, 2016). It is structured in such a way that it has the President as the top employee in the chain of command and His or Her directly reporting staffs occupies the second line of the chain. Chain of command is structured in every organization to help in decision making, organizing information flow, power, and authority (Hersh, 2015).

Taking scenerio1 as the basis of our discussion, Charles T’s wife got frustrated with Charles’ situation at the workplace and the cultural practise that was to show her military identification every time she wanted to come home, among these are the things that made Charles wife to file for a divorce and although Charles couldn’t leave the job due to the remaining one year at Kelly Air Force Base, this could have affected Charles feelings since he was going to lose his family as well. He had to talk to the chaplain about his feelings frustrations and loss of his children and marriage as well. Charles decided to talk to the chaplain about this since his chaplain was the immediate top level person in the military’s chain. The chaplain understood Charles situation and immediately contacted the chain of command and Charles was relieved of some duties.

Loss of job is one of the challenges when someone relinquishes certain right to chain of command, in this case, i assume that Charles did not lose his job since he didn’t relinquish certain right in the chain and addressed his situation to the chaplain and was relieved off some duties. Subsequently, non-observance of the chain of command in military may be considered as mutiny, which is a capital crime with a high degree of punishment.

As a helping professional, I would advise the military families to re-establish a role in the family in that they may create new routines when one member of the family is absent, the family will have to adjust to changes. This should be initiated by a special branch in the military responsible in helping family members to adapt to the chain of command in the military. This would involve a round table discussion with the parties, coupled with counselling which will psychologically prepare the family members to be without one of their own for some time. This way, the families will be able to easily adapt to the life in absence of one member.
