Fahrenheit 451 Movie and Book

However, there are a lot more differences in the film as compared to how they are presented in the book. In evaluating and assessing the film, one of the most exceptional notes is that Julie Christie takes the role of Clarisse and Linda. In the movie, she is called Mildred. From this, it is evident that the filmmaker intentionally made the woman in the book, similar to the woman in the movie the same way they are presented in society.

The difference was made to make Montag search for clues about Clarisse’s vitality and passion. He is not focusing on their outward appearance but is attempting to get to the inner intelligence and spirit of the two women in his life. In the book, Clarisse dies before Montag could know her well ( Bradbury & Gaiman, 2018) . However, in the movie, Clarisse lives on and later becomes his instructor. (In a way, she replaces Faber in the literature book which is not featured in the film). Clarisse living on in the movie is a strategic decision by the filmmaker; a choice meant to replace Faber featured in the book but does not make an appearance in the film to let Montag appear as a hero. She leads Montag to the book that is hidden in the woods, away from the city.
Another remarkable feature is that women are not featured in the novel, but play a significant role in reconstructing a new social order. However, this is because the book was published in 1953 while the movie was produced years later ( Bradbury & Gaiman, 2018) . Another significant difference between the book and the film arises from the desire to keep up with technology in the movie. The adoption of technology in the film is a very remarkable feat to keep the movie exciting and modern. Adopting modern trends in the movie is a strategic decision that enables the filmmaker to keep up with modern movie production that features a great deal of information technology (HD CHANNEL31, 2019). In the book, it is about burning books, which is different in the film, due to technology; Montag has to smash hard drives too. The movie was thus an update from an old school movie published in the 50s to technology screenplay relevant in the modern era.
However, despite all these differences, both the movie and the book tackle critical societal issues that give leaders the time to contemplate critical social issues in society. Alarmingly, people presented in these communities have forgotten much of their past and embraced censorship and propaganda. Analyzing Montag through rebirth, struggles, and challenges, the audience and reader is provided with the chance to observe how humanity can conquer difficulties and challenges ( Bradbury & Gaiman, 2018) . At the same time, an essential message from the character of Montag in both the movie and book is that books remain imperative components of society and cannot be eliminated.
The film is excellent, with its strong wavering visual flair coupled with robust features seen in the characters, especially Montag. However, the movie fails to utilize its classic sourcebook and opts for a hard-hitting approach but a compelling engagement (HD CHANNEL31, 2019). Due to this, the film diminishes the straight-gain achieved by the intellectual prowess depicted in the literature. It not only weakens the symbolic power but also fails to shine as brightly as the literature in the book it replicates. Thus, to improve on the film, the filmmaker should have stuck to the original text without making drastic changes such as introducing non-existent characters. It would have been best to stick to the book all through from the beginning to the end.
