Judges 2:1-5 is the most compelling passage. It states, “The angel of the Lord went up from Gilgal to Bokim and said, “I brought you out of Egypt and led you into the land I swore to give to your ancestors. I said, ‘I will never break my covenant with you, and you shall not break down their altars.’ Yet you have disobeyed me. Why have you done this? And I have also said, ‘I will not drive them out before you; they will become traps for you, and their gods will become snares to you.” When the angel of the Lord had spoken these things to all the Israelites, the people wept out loud.” ( New International Version Bible , 1978, Judges 2:1-5).

This verse is relatable since it discusses the significance of making the right decisions. The angel uttered these words after Joshua’s death. During this period, God promised to protect and bless the Israelites, provided they obey His commands. God notices that the Israelites are slowly turning away from the righteous lifestyle, and instead of punishing them immediately, He reminds and warns them that He is their leader. God wanted the Israelites to understand that their actions have consequences. He states, “I brought you up out of Egypt and led you into a land which I have sworn to your fathers” (Judges 2:1-2). In this passage, God reminds Israelites how He freed them from slavery in Egypt. God saved them from their misery since they were loyal and prayerful. Later, God made a covenant with the Israelites. Unlike the Israelites, God kept His promise. Covenant requires an element of faithfulness. Marriage is an example covenant. If one partner becomes unfaithful, one has a right to pursue a divorce. Likewise, God hates unfaithfulness and punishes the defiance accordingly.

Judges 2: 1-5 serves as a reminder that Christians have a responsibility to obey and serve the Lord. It is applicable in the current society. Most times, Christians focus on God’s blessings. They know that God loves and blesses them, but they must never forget to serve God. For example, Christians should obey the Ten Commandments, donate to charity, and guide sinners to earn God’s favor. Christians should understand that even if they are not perfect, they should strive to perform actions that please God. Like God, Christians should not judge others quickly. This verse reminds Christians that the greatest gift is love. God notices that Christians, especially in the current society, are becoming selfish, but He has not destroyed the universe. He believes that Christians will change their behavior and continue to love Him.
