During the third quarter of 2019, ERIC (Education Resources Information Center), an online library focused on education research as information, partnered with the state of Illinois through the ITI (Illinois Telehealth Initiative) in expanding the state broadband access. Its objective was to give the state residents the needed access to telehealth (Sternberg, 2019). By persuading the governor’s office to take the initiative, it depicted the various changes expected to take place concerning mental health and special education. New technology is depicting its importance and necessity in various sectors of society (Sternberg, 2019). The majority of Americans today have access to the internet, and this is an aspect that is critical for the objectives of organizations such as ERIC to be successful. Educations, as previously mentioned, are highly motivated by technology, and telehealth is among them (Sternberg, 2019). The use of telehealth amongst other innovative technologies represents the American health and education system's desire to deliver interventions to disabled children. The objective is to limit the intellectual gap between conventional and disabled children during the early phases of education. Additionally, researchers are implementing innovative technology using different approaches. The new approach focuses on the caregivers and educators offering training based on research to address social and behavioral communication and goals, respectively (Sternberg, 2019). The approach assures numerous high efficacies such as relief from the effects of medical personnel shortage or high caseloads for social workers. Technology is increasing the autonomy of families with children requiring special education and need. The increment of caregiver and student independence is essential, considering the rising number of students served by IDEA (the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act). With the latest estimates of 2018-2019 placing the number at over 7 million, technology is the only resource that can allow for an effective mass outcome (Bertin, 2020). It is crucial considering specific learning disabilities are the leading type of disability identified by IDEA.

Though the changes taking place within the realm of special education are innovative and embrace technological change, volunteer help will be needed. Volunteering is an essential and invaluable resource that the teaching staff and students will need. The benefits are presented to all parties as volunteers sharpen their communication and teaching skills, among others. The teaching staff and students, on the other hand, have the opportunity to interact with new individuals, thereby expanding their experience (Bertin, 2020). The volunteer work can take various forms other than classwork, for example, aiding teachers to prepare classrooms, reading with the students after hours, and tutoring some students are some of the many ways that volunteering can help. Overall, special education refers to the range of education and asocial services provided to individuals in the education system presenting with disabilities (Bertin, 2020). It is the ethical role and duty of the general public to provide the needed environment and resources needed to provide the appropriate education. Technology has evolved to allow the previously stated responsibility to be easily achieved but with support from the public. Learning disabilities are on the rise, and from a personal aspect, they are expected to be managed by the society.
