Chemically produced substances like margarine and High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) play a crucial role in the increasing type 2 diabetes and obesity rates. Compared with other forms of sugar, HRCS and other chemically produced foods are sweeter and cheaper and have high absorption rates in the body. This implies that all the chemically produced foods that we take are absorbed into the body, thus increasing the chances of diseases. According to, Cleveland Clinic (2015), HFCS increases appetite, thus increasing susceptibility to obesity. Furthermore, the food substances increase appetite by reducing brain satiety activation and increasing the body’s ghrelin serum. As a result, individuals consume higher quantities of food and sugar, thus increasing the chances of contracting type 2 diabetes and obesity.

My diet contains high levels of HFCS, which could affect my physical health due to the increased chances of diseases. For instance, I love taking foodstuffs like yogurt and bread, which increase high HFCS levels. I also love taking junk foods like pizzas, which are also sweetened using HFCS (Whitney & Rolfes, 2018). I also eat canned fruits, which have additional HFCS for preservation purposes. I am also attracted to juice and soda, which could also be avenues of exposure to large amounts of HFCS. The two components are often sweetened using HFCS. Snack foods, condiments, sauces, nutrition bars, energy drinks, coffee creamers, and ice creams are also common foodstuffs that also expose me to high levels of HFCS.

There is adequate statistical data proving that HFSC and trans fats should be banned. According to Cleveland Clinic (2015), more than 9 million Americans suffer from liver diseases resulting from HFCS consumption in their foodstuffs. Additionally, more than half a million people die every year from cardiovascular diseases due to the uptake of trans fats. With such figures, the two foodstuffs should be banned as they continue to affect livelihoods while having little or no medical benefits. Given a chance to work for the FDA, I would lobby for the ban of such foodstuffs, as they present enormous threats to human beings.
