The element of the introduction that is missing from the proceedings speech is the “attention getter” part. When writing an introduction, the first thing to start with is an attention-getting statement. It will attract the client and make them get interested in reading the other parts of the introduction. The attention-getter is usually appealing to the ready. It gives a rough idea about the other parts of the paragraph. It identifies the main message to be passed and the target audience. The first sentence in any work determines whether the audience will read it or not. In the presented paragraph, the first sentence provides a hypothetical situation, and it is not even interesting to the students as they do not care about children getting lost in the crowded mall. Most students will not continue reading the expert as it is no interest to them.

Every effective speech introduction should contain an attention-getting sentence. The writer uses the attention-getter, also known as a hook, to let the readers know the importance of the topic. The attention-getter can extend to the first four sentences of the paragraph, and it helps to invoke the curiosity of the readers. When choosing the attention-getter, there are various things that should be considered. The first one is the purpose of the speech and then the relevance or appropriateness to the audience. The attention-getter can be written in different ways. Some possible methods are through the application of an illustration, curiosity, humor, rhetorical questions, personal reference, quotation, or guided imagery. The writer should be able to choose the best type to use, depending on the target audience. The type of language chosen for this part should be understood easily as using complicated language may discourage the readers, even when the attention getter is interesting.

Delivery Modes

The four modes of delivery are memorized, manuscript, impromptu, and extemporaneous. Impromptu speaking describes the presentation of a short message without prior preparation. It happens when an individual is called to speak a few words, for instance, in a cerebration, even without preparation. The conversation is mostly information, as most of the people in the group already know the person. However, the individual is required to introduce themselves and then hold a conversation for a limited time. The advantage of this type of speaking is that it is spontaneous and responsive. However, the speaker has limited time to make their case. Extemporaneous Speaking takes place after a careful plan on what will be presented and in how long. The speaker can make brief notes to guide them. The type of presentation is usually formal, and in most cases, the speaker and the audience do not know each other. The presentation helps analyze a situation effectively and present a possible solution. Speaking from a Manuscript means referring to written material and using visual aids when addressing a situation. The approach is advantageous as repetition is avoided. Memorized speaking deals with the speaker's learning and memorizing what they will be presenting to the audience. The mode of delivery is ineffective due to ease in forgetting what one needed to present.

The most effective mode of delivery is reading from a manuscript. It requires detailed research on the topic that will be presented. The presented creates visual images and an analysis of what will be presented. Therefore, no important data will be left behind. In addition, the presented will not forget important information or get confused. The audience will also benefit from the visual presentation, making the entire process interesting. The audience can stop the presentation and ask questions without confusing the presenter.
