The drive to lose weight is majorly linked to the current western social and cultural notions of beauty. Weight suppression is the variance between a person’s current weight and the highest weight ever attained. The participants in this survey were women and men from two groups of learners at a northeastern university. Individuals with positive reinforcement for weight loss maintain the desire for thinness. The research focused on how the desire for thinness affects eating habits.

Reduction of body weight can have an enduring impact on eating behavior in years later. Weight suppression, however, has proved to heighten the risk for impending weight increase. Therefore, those who concentrate on weight suppression can develop augmented dreads of regaining the previous high weights. The continued obsession to be thin subjects one to the vulnerability of overindulgence in food since a constraint on diet foretells the beginning of blast eating. Weight suppression envisages an eating disorder risk element. This study is important for our course because the impacts of weight suppression can be introduced to the psycho-educational mechanisms of prevention plans.

Treatment for eating disorders will first be found in making individuals accept their healthy body-weight and shun the thin-ideal. Other eating disorder eating programs may be utilized to avoid drastic weight loss. Dissonance-based and evidence-based treatments are some of the effective therapies for eating disorder cases. There is also a possibility of drastic weight gain during the treatment process. Such cases need to be identified early enough, and cautionary measures are taken. It is prudent to first deal with the eating sequences before embarking on the cognitive drives for thinness.
