In this assignment, I have chosen the Tumulak Family. It is a Filipino family whose parents are in their early forties. The family has two children, a fifteen and nineteen year’s old girls and boy respectively. The wife works as an accountant while the husband is a lawyer. They raise enough money to take care of the family. Their son works with a law while the girl is a first year student at college. In order to show this family’s pattern which reflects their lifestyle, I will use Gordon’s eleven functions of health assessment (Edelman, Eudzma & Mandle, 2014) ; Murdaugh, Parsons & Pender, 2018).
Family values
The Family comes first when assessing family values. The family in the Philippines consists of father, mother, siblings, grandparents, uncles, aunties and cousins. Furthermore, it consists of family friends, long-time neighbors, godparents, and distant relatives (Values of Filipinos, 2014). The family is highly esteemed in the Philippines and they go to church together every Sunday and pray every night. Thus family is a healthy family although they stated that their parents suffered from heart diseases.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
Nutrition
This family mostly partake a balanced diet of vegetables, seafood, and rice. They consistently get three meals per day. They also have a habit of taking snacks between meals. For instance, when a member of the family gets hungry when doing their work, they can take snacks. They prepare fast food which they take.
Sleep/Rest
The Tumulak family does not get enough sleep and they lack consistency of sleep owing to school and work. The school girl always sleeps late owing to school work and assignments. Parents get back home from work late in the night and their sleeping schedules are messed up. During weekends when parents are available, the family unites and goes for outings and play games.
Elimination
There is daily elimination in this family. According to this family, they have a normal bowel movement. They therefore, drink a lot of water on daily basis. There is a clean supply of water which meets their daily elimination needs. Because the son drinks a lot of water, he goes twice a day in order to maintain his health.
Activity/Exercise
In as much as parents may not have enough time to attend the gym, they maintain a healthy diet. During holidays, the family unites for outings which they use for games. The son, however, goes to the gym. The daughter does workouts to maintain her body at home and school.
Cognitive/Sensory-Perception
This is an outgoing and positive family. Their self-esteem is very high and they engage in various activities with their kids both at home and school. The daughter draws her drawing talent from her father. She is also a very good dancer. Because of her many talents, she is conspicuous in school. Every member of this family has a say in the outcomes of health promotion.
Self-Perception
According to the Tumulak family, they are not different from any other Filipino family since they adhere to all rules like any other family would. Besides being talented, they pray and attend church together. They love each other and are proud of their child’s every decision. It is a family which does not judge anyone for their decisions. They uphold the principle of hard work since they worked hard for everything they have. Similarly, they teach their children to work hard to own their own hard-earned wealth.
Role Relationship
In this family, everyone is given a role in the household. Since they want everyone to be part of the decision making process, no one is the head. The father and mother ensure that the house is cleaned. In their absence, the daughter vacuums the house and feeds the cat. The brother helps to make work easier.
Sexuality
This family teaches its children the misconceptions of sexuality in a relationship. In addition, they are taught that regardless of their sexuality, they are accepted in the family. It is the desire of this family to have their children happy in their sexual relationships and comfortable in life.
Coping
This family has different ways of coping with stress. Parents may give thought to the situation and resolve it. Children absorb much stress and do not know how to cope up with it. They try to help themselves since they don’t involve their parents although their parents offer moral support.
Wellness Diagnosis
I have come up with two wellness diagnosis based on this assessment: the readiness to have improved pattern of sleep and readiness to improved self-care (Weber, 2014; Chenoweth, 2018 ). For the first option, they should have enough sleeping time each night and be fully active and awake the whole day. They have a tendency of taking naps which leads to procrastination of assignments. Self-care diagnosis is the second since children do not enjoy outside environment as they would want to. Parents don’t take them as much due to busy working schedules. When the brother goes, he goes alone, leaving his sister who stays indoors most of the time.
