Which National Security Agency, Department or Bureau has the Most Influence and Why?

Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has the most influence over the federal government because is the main intelligence gathering agency in America charged with the responsibility of collecting and analyzing intelligence information on government and individuals, and it also conducts actions of covert (Levy, 2011). According to Smith (2013), this agency was formed by the National Security Act of 1947, and its main objective is to provide information relating to foreign intelligence to senior policymakers and government of the U.S. to help them in making national security decisions. Gathering and analyzing information is a complex process and entails many steps, for instance, identifying a problem such as plans of organization of terrorist attack or how chemical or biological weapons can be used, then they gather information about such problems. Therefore, CIA in partnership with other departments or agencies such FBI, DHS engage in counterterrorism and counterintelligence, to ensure that America is protected from internal and external attacks (Levy, 2011).

According to Cohen (2018), in a CCN newsletter, Pompeo, who is the CIA director, met the top Russian spies over the talk to warn Russia against meddling with the U.S. 2018 midterm elections. Also, both officials from Russia and U.S. indicated that the center of their discussion was on cooperative efforts to fight terrorism. In line with Russian interference with U.S. election, Pompeo and the Trump administration are working towards countering efforts of meddling in the upcoming elections by Russians. As a result, Pompeo has given some specifics about what steps to be taken towards achieving the mission to counter Russian interferences (Cohen, 2018).
