Ethical Dilemmas Arising in Public Administration based on My Vision

The field of public administration is prone to various ethical dilemmas in a bid to maintain a balance between enforcing policies while guaranteeing public wellbeing. Administrative discretion is an ethical dilemma, considering that public official not only executes policies but also make decisions about people’s lives (Cardenas & Ramirez, 2018). In this case, public administrators are required to use their discretion to ensure that the section of an alternative over others is rational. At times, public administrators rely on personal preferences or political affiliation to decide on the most suitable approach. This approach means that it is possible to misuse administrative discretion, while it is supposed to promote wellbeing (Cardenas & Ramirez, 2018). To this end, administrative discretion creates ethical dilemmas, especially if they cause more harm than good.
