The genetic basis of sex involves the determination of the appearance and behavior of an individual using their genes. It is one of the parameters used in differentiating one person from the other. Gender, on the other hand, is the definition of a person as either male or female. One of the main difference between these two emanates from the fact that whereas genetic basis of sex determines a person regarding their behavior which is a tenet of the genes, gender relies on the sex of a person to classify them as male, female, bisexual, and unisex etc. Secondly, the genetic basis of sex implies that an individual has multiple biological differences while in gender, the difference only comes in regards to masculinity and femininity.

Patriarchy

Patriarchy is a system in the society where the males dominate the females. The male is perceived to have power and authority over other members of the family such as the women and the children. In this system, females are devalued, and all decision-making authority lies with the males. At an individual level, an example of patriarchy in action is when a person asserts that gossips are meant for women which puts the men in a position where they are not required to talk too much but instead act in a masculine way. At the societal level, patriarchy can play out with regards to color choice where pink is perceived to be a female color and blue a male color. Also, females can be excluded from vital family decisions that include things concerning marriage, finance, and property.

Marxism and Gender Stratification

The framework used to analyze gender stratification with regards to Marxist theory is called the Materialist Feminism. The framework is built on the premise of the socioeconomic stratification of the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. Therefore, it asserts that men exploit women in the same way the bourgeoisie exploited the proletariat.
