The art of influence is more about making one person do a favor agree with one's opinion. Influencing people is a powerful art that combines power and influence thus the need for various tactics that can be used in swaying people to one's point of view. This paper discusses the use of power and influence in Godfather between Bonasera and Don Corleone as the Godfather.

Several strategies have been used by Bonasera to convince Don Corleone to give help in getting justice for her daughter. One major source of influence that Bonasera uses towards Don Corleone is making the idea of justice appear to be his too (Kim, 2015). For instance, being a Godfather to Bonasera's daughter, it seems obvious that the fact that Bonasera points out her daughter and need for her justice. Given the family relationship despite having differences, Don Corleone has the responsibility to avenge Bonasera's daughter. Bonasera also uses money as power and influence to get Don Corleone to help him avenge his daughter and make the people that hurt her suffer (Kim, 2015).

Reward power has been used by Bonasera who can give rewards to Don Corleone in the form of money in order for him to comply with his request and help with avenging his daughter. Bonasera has also used the influence of sincere appreciation as toward the clip, he for the first time recognizes Don Corleone as Godfather. Bonasera also employs the influence of asking for a favor such that given the many options he had before and lost, the only person he can come to is Don Corleone.

Bonasera has been portrayed as asking for a personal favor from a person he should consider Godfather to his daughter. Such an approach is believed to have the ability to sway Don Corleone into helping Bonasera regardless of their differences. Bonasera also considers a form of stopping self-sabotage in influencing Don Corleone into helping him. Having kept a distance from Don Corleone for some time and needing his help, the only option he has is to stop self-sabotage and go seek help from his closest friend. Such an action can be viewed as a form of gesture that makes Don Corleone realize that his friend needs his help and it is upon him to help out.

Don Corleone has also used some form of influence towards Bonasera such as when he shows genuine interest in Bonasera where he states that had if he comes as a friend Bonasera’s enemies would have been his enemies. The show of genuine interest is also portrayed when Don Corleone informs Bonasera that he has never invited him for a cup of coffee (Kim, 2015). Even the fact that Don Corleone informs Bonasera that he has never recognized him as a Godfather serves as a form of influence as he uses this method to make Bonasera know how he feels. Don Corleone also uses the influence of finding common ground with Bonasera when he reminds him of the way he treated him before. Finding common ground with Bonasera is the easiest way that Don Corleone can use to inform him of the rift that has been there between the two of them and the need for major resolution.

The outcome of the use of influence by the two results in a positive outcome as both parties receives what they want. For instance, Don Corleone becomes recognized as being Godfather to Bonasera's daughter while Bonasera managed to convince Don Corleone to avenge his daughter. The strategies related to the use of power and influence and the past relationship between Bonasera and Don Corleone establishes the basis for their agreement and final resolution on the need to help avenge Bonasera's daughter.
