Chronic diseases have troubled humankind for as long as they have existed. These are lifelong medical conditions that keep progressing over time. One such chronic disease is diabetes. Diabetes, referred to medically as diabetes mellitus, is one of the most common chronic conditions today. Diabetes is a medical disorder that results to high levels of sugar in the blood. The condition arises in two form, i.e. diabetes-Type 1 Diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes. This paper looks at diabetes and, its causes, and how to avoid risking being a victim.
Diabetes arises in one’s body due to the production of little or no insulin in the human body or the resistance of body cells to insulin (Whitaker, 2017). However, on most occasions, it is the people who invite the disease into their bodies by leading a risky health life. Certain factors contribute largely to people being infected by diabetes. Some are controllable; others are not. Examples of controllable risk factors include weight and physical inactivity. Increased fatty tissues in the body make it quite resistant to insulin (Whitaker, 2017). Abstaining from regular physical activities for long periods also contributes a great deal to the infection. The uncontrollable ones include age, race, and family history. No one has control over their age or race. As people grow older, they become prone to being infected by diabetes due to their weak body cells (Whitaker, 2017). Again, if a family has been having a chain of diabetic infected people, it is almost not possible to escape being infected too.

However, it is entirely possible to reduce chances of being infected by diabetes. For instance, one could start by doing exercise (Whitaker, 2017). Frequent exercise makes one eliminate fatty tissues in their body. This reduces their chances of being obese, which is one of the leading causes of diabetes. Having a proper diet also comes in handy (Whitaker, 2017). Eating too many sugary foods has a very significant impact on the blood sugar levels of a person. Dormancy should also be avoided at all times. People should always be actively involved in doing activities that boost their physical wellbeing (Whitaker, 2017).
Diabetes is there, and diabetes is real. People need to come to terms with the fact that their health matters more than anything and start living healthy lives knowing that every decision made is always consequential. Foods need to be monitored, and our physical fitness needs to be kept in form always. That way we prevent being victims the easier way. As it is always said, prevention is better than cure.
