Scott's and Barbara’s addiction has a lot of impacts on Jonah’s future development, counting things like mental or psychological and physical issues. Barbara’s drug abuse while being expectant possibly caused child defects to Jonah’s life from the time of his birth. Jonah may possibly mature to develop addictive conducts. He may learn addictive conducts from Scott and Barbara who are drug abusers. The earlier in life a youngster is exposed to the addiction of the parents, the greater chances for having an addiction. Although the family might not be the only source, it is a major source of addictive. This is for the reason that family is a kid’s initial origin of social interaction. Disputes between Jonah’s parents can cause stress for him in his growing years which can also lead him to drug abuse as an escape. There is a great possibility that parents will neglect the child, since their attention will be obtaining drugs, and their capability is weakened by the impacts of drugs so they are not capable of paying adequate attention to their child’s needs. This kind of neglect will have an adverse effect on child’s health, his physical and emotional development, his education and put him in danger of sexual and physical abuse.

Social workers, meet kids and teenagers who are in complex family circumstances and might necessitate a range of resources for assistance. In the present case of Jonah, the situation involves drug abuse and domestic violence. These factors are existing in the kid’s environment, which affects his development. The social workers, as a mandated reporter, is lawfully obligated to report any suspicion he/she has of child neglect or abuse to regional authorities in a step to warrant a better environment in which the kid could grow (Plummer, Makris & Brocksen, 2014) . Therefore, the social worker should report Jonah’s case to the relevant authority. Even though Barbara takes pain pills because of the accident, she doesn’t feel like she is addicted since she is offered the medicine at a health center. Therefore, the social worker should also make Scott and Barbara view what their addictions are and accept they really need help .
