Distinction between Globalism and Globalization

Many persons perceive globalism and globalization as a similar phenomenon, although the two terms differ in various ways. Globalism aims at explaining and illustrating just a world that features connected networks spanning distances across continents. It seeks to comprehend the diverse inner-connections that characterize the present world and explaining them. Globalization, on the other hand, refers to a decline or rise in extent of globalism. It emphasizes on the dynamisms, forces, or speed of the alterations. Globalization revolves around the growing connectivity between regions and people worldwide. It serves as a detached technical term disengaged from a moral imperative while not instilled with any sense of activism or duty while it describes “what” or “how (Price, 2014) .” In short, globalism entails the fundamental network whereas globalization targets the declining distances on a broader scale.

Global Citizenship to Personal, Academic, and Professional Goals

Serving as a global citizen in a world characterized by advanced technology fosters success in meeting personal, academic, and professional goals. On personal goals, for instance, global citizenship increases individual cultural awareness, which makes life more meaningful while influencing the lives of others positively (Banks, 2014) . This becomes apparent when individuals remain updated on current events, conversing with persons from distinct backgrounds, visiting new nations, and trying new foods, among other personal that add on to personal experience. Regarding academic goals, global citizenship allows persons to get access to numerous learning opportunities and institutions from different parts of the world. This way, it becomes possible to enroll in a career that meets educational goals (Lilley, Barker, & Harris, 2015) . In the area of professional goals, persons have the opportunity of working in different countries after graduating due to the influence of advanced technology and globalization.

Disagreements between Theorists Concerning Global Citizenship Definition

The global citizenship concept has emerged as area of emphasis among theorists, while globalization has had significant influence on psychological functioning and identity. A need for increased emphasis on the influence of global and cultural effects on daily life has failed to receive major attention. As such, defining the global citizenship concept has emerged challenging because of the utilization of apparently tantamount terms to describe a complex global identity together with influence that the theorists have had in defining the term despite being form distinct disciplines.

Numerous labels have been utilized when it comes to illustrating the illusive citizenship type, including post-national, universal world, and transnational citizenship (Mikander, 2016) . Whereas certain theorists utilize the terms in an interchangeable manner, others offer vivid differentiations. Some equate global citizenship with world and international citizenship whereas others argue that global citizen revolvers around social justice, which recognizes world citizen (Mikander, 2016) . Others emphasize on the issue of mobility and trade while those supporting earth citizenship mostly focus on the environment. In this case, the confusion that prevails concerning global citizenship worsens because theorists base their definitions on different perspectives and disciplines, including, educational, development, theological, and political while trying to define the concept.

Philosophy theorists focus on the issue of ethics and morality whereas educational theorists emphasize on worldwide awareness. Others disdain the concept of global citizenship altogether as idealist as well as untenable due to absence of solid legal recognition of recognizing groups globally (Reysen & Katzarska-Miller, 2013) . In this case, confusions have emerged concerning definition of the global citizen concept.

Chosen Outcomes of Global Citizenship

The outcomes of globalization selected comprise of Environmental Sustainability and Intergroup Helping. These two outcomes serve as the most essential in emerging a global citizen as opposed to others for several reasons. For instance, environmental sustainability entails the connection between nature and humans while people realize the needs for safeguarding the natural environment (Lilley, Barker, & Harris, 2015) . Protecting the natural environment should serve as a key initiative for each global citizen to ensure continued sustainability of life and unending resources from the environment in which people live. In the event of intergroup helping, it pertains to the aid offered to other individuals outside one’s group, while it revolves around behaviors, including local volunteering, charity, and working together with global organizations to assist others internationally (Reysen & Katzarska-Miller, 2013) . This outcome is essential because of the manner in which it shows care to disadvantaged and vulnerable citizens of the world.

Personal of Life Events Illustrating Global Citizenship

From the two outcomes selected, I have come across events in life that illustrate global citizenship. Regarding environmental sustainability, for instance, I have seen nations instituting measures of reducing emission of carbon dioxide to minimize global warming, which serves as a means of conserving the environment. In the event of intergroup helping, I have served as a part of numerous charitable organizations that engage in charitable activities, particularly in countries stricken by hunger and poverty while assisting them with basic needs, including food, shelter, clothing, and healthcare among other vital requirements. These initiatives have depicted initiatives geared toward being responsible global citizens.

Specific General Education Courses

The specific general education courses that have influenced me to become a global citizen comprise of International Relations and International Economics. The International Relations course has led me to realize the importance of emerging as increasing essential as the world realizes growth and increased connectedness through commerce, migration, trade, social, media, the Internet as well as other concerns revolving around the worldwide environmental issues. For the International Economics course, it has led me to understand the interactions that prevail between nations as well as the influence of worldwide issues on global economic activity. In this manner, I have seen the need for taking part in political and economic issues attributed to international finance and trade to create a united global economy.
