The majority of social workers find integrating of religion and spirituality discussion as a crucial part of their clients' lives and believe that there is a need to address these two elements during therapy. I agree that the integration of religion and spirituality discussion into the social work practice is of the essence as it enhances the relationship between the clinicians and the clients. Social workers should professionally and sensitively initiate the discussion of religion and spirituality each time they are having a session with their patients (Heyman, 2006). Thus, in this paper, I will discuss why I agree.

Social workers initiating the discussion of religion and spirituality will help them relate with the patient on a personal level and create a good relationship with them. In this case, once a patient is comfortable with their clinician, it becomes easy for them to open up and share their issues so that they can get the best solution or treatment for their conditions. Proper training should be given to the clinicians on how to offer excellent services to their clients while integrating the religion and spirituality discussion. The integration of religion and spirituality discussions has so many benefits. Patients are affected positively by the conversations they have with the clinicians on religion and spirituality. Most of the time, these conversations help to give the patient a great coping mechanism with their health situation, and sometimes, it is known to bring a reduction in substance abuse, including marijuana and alcohol. These conversations are also known to help in reducing stress and depression.

Moreover, many people believe that it is against the religion to commit suicide since the social workers include the religious and spiritual conversations with their clients who have suicidal thoughts and are bound to change their minds and see the need to be alive. Focusing on the patients' issues on a perspective that will touch on their religion and spirituality helps the social worker achieve their goals of assisting the patients as most people tend to rely on these two elements to understand their daily lives and the situations that they are in.
