The article is a research on homosexuals, transgender, lesbians and other issues of transsexuality. The paper discusses the different challenges of these groups of people in an Islamic country where such issues for instance, homosexuality is punishable by death as it is viewed as going against Islamic teachings (Najmabadi, 2008). The author discusses the increment of transgender surgeries in the past few decades in Iran that has shocked the world due to the Islamic laws that are deemed harsh for such people. The article has also identified the major challenges of adolescent teens who learn about their sexuality and the effects of being transsexual.
In the first section the paper discusses the history of transgender in Iran and the different perceptions by the political and religious leaders that has made the transgender people live in fear and undergo a filtration of about six months. The filtration process is a psychological and biological processes of distinguishing a genuine transsexual from those who are just influenced by their peers to transsexuality (Najmabadi, 2008). The process is mostly harsh as it is undertaken in accordance with Islamic therapy. If one is identified as a genuine transsexual, they are certified but they cannot exploit sexuality with people from same sex as it is illegal.

The religio-legal framework prohibits same-sex intimate relationship thus leading to the increment of transgender surgeries (Najmabadi, 2008). The paper also discusses the difference of gays and transsexual female as viewed by the society and their parents. The author claim that gays are more despised and face being violated in public areas and are mostly regarded as prostitutes and HIV positive although the author claims that most of them have restrained from anal sex even with their long-term boyfriends until they acquire vaginal surgeries (Najmabadi, 2008). A gay is more likely than a female to be disowned and never reconcile for being transgender due to the high regards of males in the society.

The article has discussed many issues regarding transgender in Iran and the various humiliating and stereotyping of the transgender and transsexuals. The author uses responses from the people affected and the therapists who undertake the therapy sessions thus making the data reliable.
