Prompt 1
After Jesus Christ was baptized, he proceeded to the Judean desert where he spent 40 days and 40 nights fasting. The devil tried to tempt Jesus into sinning as he was physically vulnerable as any human would be if they fasted. Jesus was asked to turn stones into bread to sooth his hunger, throw himself from a high place as the Lord’s angels would catch and lastly to bow to Satan and receive all the earthly riches ( Klynsma, 2013) . Jesus maintained his faith in God and refrained from falling into the devils tricks. The significance of this event for Jesus was that I prepared him for the hardships he would come to face and acted to strengthen him in the ensuing adversary. It strengthened his human and weak nature and cemented his resolve to use his divine power not for his personal gains but that of others ( Klynsma, 2013) . The significant of the event of modern Christianity is that it shows believers how they should act when faced with bodily weakness. They are taught to connecting spiritually with God as the rewards, joy and satisfaction they will receive is greater than all worldly pleasures. Christians strive to follow Jesus’ example and avoid the devil’s tricks that lead them to sin.
Prompt 2
Lee Strobel talks about the 4Es that prove Christianity is real; namely execution of Christ, Early accounts of resurrection, the Empty tomb, and Eye Witnesses ( Walters, 2014) . This point interests me because I thought it impossible to historically prove the resurrection of Christ as a real event that happened. My second interest is his explanation for why the more than 500 eye-witness accounts for the citing of a resurrected Jesus are valid. He says that a renowned psychologist confirmed that the accounts must have been real and not hallucinations as a reaction to grief as such responses are usually subjective ( Walters, 2014) . This is interesting because it is scientific evidence in support of the resurrection of Christ. These statements have made me reconsider my position on the truth of Jesus’ life. I have always believed in the existence of God, but the idea of Jesus had always seemed like a far-fetched myth similar to stories about Greek, Norse or Egyptian mythology.
