Severe Combined Immunodeficiencies, or known as SCID, is a group of genetic disorders that, without treatment, can kill an infant within the first year. It hinders the normal development of other lymphatic lineages. It is important to note that it has a frequency of one out of seventy-five or a hundred thousand children (Fischer, 2000). It is also essential to know that SCID's standard treatment is Allogeneic BMT (Fischer. 2000). In the BMT procedure, no immunosuppression is required. However, patients that lack HLA identical donor, a haploidentical stem cell transplantation procedure is used.

The effects of smoking on the lungs are severe. It is paramount to know how and why the lungs are affected by smoking. When cigarette smoke is inhaled, the chemicals in it interfere with the mechanism of cleaning the lungs and filtering air (Naveed and Abid, 2015. The chemicals include tar, nicotine, and carbon monoxide. This causes some changes in the way the lungs function. Some changes may be long-term: emphysema, while others may be short-term: colds and pneumonia (Naveed and Abid, 2015). Apart from the three mentioned effects, these diseases also contribute to the lungs' failure and the breathing system.

The layers of the immune system function to protect the body from pathogens. It is important to note that the immune system can also be classified as auto and inner systems. The autoimmune system contains the three aspects mentioned. It is also paramount to note that the T and B cells' exact role is still controversial (Martens, 2002). The inner system works by offering resistance to pathogens. It does this by either altering the host's cell metabolism or killing the cell (Martens, 2002). All this the body does in pursuit to defend itself from pathogens.
