In the case above, one can notice the presence of avoidance preference. It is the case because Jane avoids the meeting due to various concrete reasons. The main reason is the fact that John and Denise have acted unprofessionally as seen in the case. There rises unprofessionalism from the two because Jane is late to the meeting she needs to have with the two.

She is using strategies of accommodation and compromise when dealing with the conflict. Jane is opting to appoint a leader for the project as a group. She wants to make sure that every person has his or her considerations taken into account. Jane is moreover thoughtful of all the feelings for the people who are involved. On the other hand, Denise is using competition as a means of solving the conflict. Denise feels that she is the one who is supposed to be the leader of the project because she has more experience. Denise also thinks that the group should not make any decision and instead it should be a decision that comes from Jane.

Jane has to be cautious after the conflict as she tries to find a solution that is agreeable on who should lead the process of finding solutions in the company. Jane should ensure that the conditions are not hostile and should not lose some of the valuable employees. Jane should, therefore, ask Denise and John to write a proposal on some of the techniques of improving the career development program.

Emotions seem to be playing a part in the conflict. John and Denise feel that they should be the leader of the project because of the experience that they have. Denise is upset after learning that the group will be making the decision. Roger and Jill feel that they cannot be the leader because they do not have the required experience (Shockley-Zalabak, 2009).
