Question One

NCAA athletes should be paid as employees since they are the ones who are involved physically and mentally in the performance of sports. The idea of offering them paid tuition should be dismissed since it overlooks the contribution of Division 3 college athletes who dedicate their time and energy to generate income for the NCAA. Since the NCAA has grown into a multi-billion dollar empire, it can be pitted against professional leagues such as National Football League (NFL), National Hockey League (NHL), and the National Basketball Association (NBA) ( Gardella, 2020 ). Hence, athletes should be paid since the college experience is challenging for them when they do not have enough money to purchase the necessities. In colleges, athletes are advised to treat sports as a job and be professional at all times. However, unlike other employees, such as waiters and waitresses, they do not receive exemplary performance rewards. Some high-performing and famous college athletes allow the NCAA to publish their images on sports magazines and sell their jerseys without giving them any compensation ( Gardella, 2020 ). The idea of compensating college athletes in the form of scholarships is misleading since most of the athletes are in financial debts despite being part of NCAA that makes millions of dollars every year. Besides, college athletes spend most of their time in sporting activities. An ordinary working person spends about 40 hours a day at his or her job, while college athletes spend up to 80 hours per week ( Gardella, 2020 ). From this observation, it is evident that college athletes are working as professionals, and thus, they should be paid and compensated as such.

Question Two

Although critics argue that small colleges may not be able to afford to pay college athletes and compete fairly in the NCAA championships, designing a system that can pay the NCAA college athletes is possible. The most effective strategy would be the introduction of a salary cap. Here, the NCAA compensation system will avoid the focus on the richest and successful schools. Every athlete should receive a minimum salary of $25000 per year. This method will ensure that talent is well-spread across college sports. Besides, college athletes will be loyal to their institutions. There will be no instances of jealousy among the athletes since this system will be fair. Apart from the annual salary, the athletes will be awarded a lifetime health insurance. This payment will cover the injuries that may incur during sports performance. In most cases, college athletes lose scholarships when they are unable to play due to injuries. Additionally, this system will grant athletes a percentage of TV and marketing revenue after they have graduated. Under this system, the athletes will take up to eight years to finish their degrees. Since they devote most of their time in sports, they should be granted adequate time to focus on their academics to graduate and reap the benefits of their hard work and dedication to sports.

Question Three

The pay strategy design will have a salary cap system and compensation for athletes' image and likeness in media houses. Under this system, the college athletes will receive a $25000 annually and 10% of the TV adverts and marketing campaigns. Basketball and football coaches will receive salaries of $650000 and $3000000, respectively. This revenue source will be the NCAA and donations from fans and the relevant organizations that support and sponsor sporting events. This level of funding will positively impact colleges and universities since it would significantly reduce the money that they would have spent in building lavish facilities and programs (Hess, 2019). Instead, the players will directly benefit from the program and become motivated to make the college sports entertaining. However, the athletes from other sports outside basketball and football will feel left out and may demand equal salaries.
