Capital punishment is a legal provision by the law where an individual may be put to death in the case he or she is found guilty of serious crimes such as murder, treason, arson among others. The offender is executed after being convicted by a court of law of the crimes committed. Capital punishment is also referred to as the death penalty. Although capital punishment has been abolished in most countries in the world, there remain a few countries that still use the death penalty as a form of punishment for the serious crimes. Whether capital punishment should be used or not to punish criminals remains a major ethical issue. Some countries have adopted life imprisonment and solitary confinement as the alternative forms of punishment for major crimes.

I hold the opinion that capital punishment is unethical and should not be used on anyone including the criminals. Every individual has the right to life and no one including a court of law has the right to take that right away. My moral principles go against an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth belief which has faulted our morals as the human race. The government has prisons and other correctional facilities that can be used to confine these offenders and keep the other citizens safe. A recent study showed that a good percentage of those sentenced to capital punishment is later found not guilty after they appeal their sentences. This means that a fault in the judicial system may result in the death of an innocent person under the unforgiving arms of the law. The offenders deserve to be punished for their crimes; however, the government has systems or should have systems that will ensure that the offenders are punished for their crimes but at the same time preserving their life. Some of these criminals end up getting reformed and become better citizens.

My comment on the example writing is that the value of life supersedes the value of anything else on this planet. Even the gravest of the offenders deserve a second chance in life. The worst offenders also deserve another shot in life. The best way to deal with these individuals is to confine them in prisons where rehabilitative programs should be used to rehabilitate them. I also agree with the opinion that solitary cells and continued torture are worse punishments than capital punishment.
