Question One

I agree with the statement that states the death penalty should not be implemented since there is a risk of executing innocent individuals. There are cases in which innocent people have been executed due to inadequate investigation by the prosecution. Besides, acquitting someone of charges after death does not significantly change the case’s outcome since they do not live to enjoy their freedom. I also agree with the statement that’s the death penalty is unfair and should not be practiced. The correctional system should rehabilitate inmates so that they can learn to live with others. The death penalty does not solve any problem. I disagree with the statement that implies the death penalty prevents future murders. Also, it is wrong to state that just society allows the death penalty.

Question Two

I would not be fit to serve on a jury since I cannot vote for the death sentence. I believe that the death sentence does not change people’s behaviors. While people deserve punishment for committing crimes, the death penalty is not a justified means. It denies people an opportunity to learn about their actions and correct their behaviors. Since my stand on the death penalty does not change, I would not be fit for a jury.

Question Three

After reading Kenneth Junior French’s background story, I would not have subjected him to the death penalty. The defendant has a psychological problem that stems from his childhood experiences. Witnessing a close relative being raped can have a detrimental impact on a child’s wellbeing. I noticed that French had developed negative attitudes towards black people since he believes a black man raped. Besides, French was drunk while committing the crime. Although he killed people, his actions do reflect his character. Instead of subjecting the offender to capital punishment, the jury should sentence him to jail and ensure adequate psychological counselling. French needs to learn how to separate his emotions, past experiences, and prejudices from current life events. A death sentence would not inform him about the impact of his actions.
