The thematic representations manifested in Paul’s epistles represent different reasons and purposes to which those letters were written. First, it is certainly the fact that all the different letters were written for distinct reasons depending on the people involved and their historical experiences (Helyer, 2000). However, a few overarching purposes appear from the general themes in the epistles. They include uniting the people, restoration of people who had relegated themselves from the church and to preach the gospel of salvation that comes from Jesus.

First, Paul wrote epistles in concern over disunity among the people with a view to bring them together. For instance, he wrote to Corinthians after receiving notification that the Corinthian congregation was being torn apart by quarrelling among themselves. Due to the enormous distance, Paul could not expeditiously respond to the situation and therefore wrote a lengthy letter to suppress the disturbance and guide them positively in his absence, sending timothy to deliver the same. This was in emphasis of the essence behind unity of the church.

Further, Paul wrote to Galatians with a view to rhetorically restore to the church Galatians who had wandered astray. The message thematically recalls a group in Galatia back to the gospel which they had apparently abandoned while rebuking and warning them against their ways as wells as giving counsel on how Christian life should be lived.

Finally, Paul wrote to preach the Gospel of salvation with emphasis that the same only comes from Christ. For instance, he wrote to Paul wrote to Romans to preach the gospel of salvation to them in a quest to explaining to them that such salvation only comes from Jesus Christ; which has been the main theme throughout the book Romans, adducing the essence of grace in salvation of which Jesus Christ is the custodian.
