Zoo Miami takes pride in being the only tropical zoo in the United States. It is also the largest and the oldest zoological garden in Florida covering 750 acres with about 3000 animals. The facility is accredited and maintained by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Zoo Miami is regarded as an important facility in society as it plays significant roles in education, conservation, and donations in the community. Thousands of students from diverse regions visit the zoo to have a glimpse of numerous animal species. Biology and History students have a chance of experiencing and seeing species that once existed hundreds of years ago and learn the history of evolution. This helps students to understand certain topics in class and enhance their knowledge since they have the visual image of book illustrations. "The zoo plays a vital role in ensuring the survival of extinct and endangered animals," (Ron Magill). Animals such as Liama are on the brink of extinction, and their population is relatively small. The zoo is dedicated to protecting vulnerable species through population management and sustainable living. “Zoo Miami is well positioned to reach millions of people every year and provide a unique opportunity to connect with nature," (Ron Magill). Also, a percentage of the revenue collected at the Zoo is channeled to assist various charity programs in the community, and the rest goes to maintain the facility. Animal conservation is an effective solution in ensuring that no species is neglected and that we protect their diversity. Zoo Miami among other zoos in the world is important in providing ecological services and slowing the unnaturally extreme rates of animal extinctions. If we do not preserve wildlife and the well-being of the wildlife animals, we are indirectly subjecting human life to various challenges such as human-wildlife conflicts.
