The United state of America is one of the countries in the world that allows its citizens constitutionally to own firearms. The Second Amendment ensures that the State observes the rights of the Americans to own a gun at all cost; however, there have been debates concerning the increasing cases of gun attacks in the country (Lepsius, 2018). The Supreme Court was also in support of protecting the rights of the civilians to own the guns because the individuals will play a significant role in enhancing the security and defend the government from all the enemies where necessary.

After reexamining the Second Amendment in 2008, Supreme Court manages to highlight that self-defence was the primary component of the amendment and it will be unconstitutional to prohibit the citizens from acquiring the firearms lawful purposely for self-defence. The Supreme Court also affirmed the rulings of the previous meetings concerning the civilian rights to own guns as an organized militia when the civilians take the weapons to protect and defend their liberties. The Supreme Court was in support of the constitution that allows the citizens to own guns as per the Second Amendment.

The majority of the people were right to support the rights of the civilians to own the guns because it enables to protect their lives and their properties as well even though some had a different opinion (Sunstein, 2008). Researchers have managed to carry out studies on civilian gun ownership and the findings show that the increase in the number of guns with the civilians is indirectly proportional to the number of crimes meaning that as many people own guns, the number of crimes will reduce significantly. It is therefore essential for the government to ensure that its citizens can defend themselves, especially at this time where there is an increase in the number of terrorist attacks. The Second Amendment will ensure that the civilians own the firearms that will enable them to protect the State against the enemies as well as their properties and families.
