Rockefeller Foundation is a family owned private foundation providing social services to many people around the world. The founders of this organization are John D. Rockefeller Senior and his son, John D. Rockefeller Junior. The organization was founded in 1913 and has existed for six generations. The foundation has its main headquarters in New York. Their first project was in line with providing proper sanitary measures to reduce the spread of diseases in various countries around the world. Some of the other services provided by the Rockefeller foundation include financial to the education, health and food sectors and job creation and innovation ( Birn, 2014) . Just like other foundation seek to fight for equitable distribution of resources to people, the main mission of Rockefeller Foundation is to enhance the well-being of people around the world. Their values are built on transparency, and they operate on real results.

A twelve member board of trustees head the Rockefeller Foundation. The main role of these trustees is overseeing the projects the organization takes part in, budget allocation, and performance and investment strategies. Among the many programs the trustees have overseen, three of them are in line with health, food and power ( Birn, 2014) . Under health, the organization has sought to reach even the remotest of regions to promote better health care for the citizens. The results have been a reduction of deaths emerging from preventable diseases. Under food, the organization has attended some forums related to eradication of tariffs and taxes on fertilizers. The move seeks to make these commodities affordable to farm owners and increase their yield. Also, they have helped farmers come up with ways of producing more sustainable and nourishing food system. One of the major goals of Rockefeller foundation is to ensure sustainability (Rodin, 2016). For instance, on the food sector, the foundation has done research activities, especially in developing countries. The agricultural sector seems to have no problem in production. However, there are still many people who are hunger stricken. The findings made by Rockefeller foundation were that more often than not, the problems are at the grass root level. A farmer may have planted inadequate. However, most of their yield usually gets spoilt before reaching the market. This implies that in as much as there is plenty, there is also a lot of wastage. Some of the reasons leading to such wastage include lack of proper transportation systems, no ready market and poor post-harvest management of the crop products. The Zero-Gap Innovative Finance Portfolio of the Rockefeller Foundation aids in such instances by providing innovative mechanisms that work for the social benefit of the community.

Of importance also is understanding that some disasters are inevitable. The Rockefeller Foundation has teamed up with the government to help it achieve its Sustainable development Goals, SDGs. However, the foundation understands that it cannot only fund developments. Therefore, for everyone says three dollars invested in developments, a dollar is taken to cater for natural calamities (Rodin, 2016). In the food sector, these calamities include climate changes that result in drought. Rockefeller Foundation is designing ways in which countries can be more resilient to shocks brought about by natural calamities. Also, these measures will result in a more inclusive and strong economy. To achieve the SDGs, different sectors, not only agriculture, have to be explored. Therefore, private institutions such as Rockefeller Foundation have teamed up with foundations in other sectors such as public health to ensure the process is progressive.

The link between the Rockefeller Foundation and other non-governmental organizations, both community based and multinational entities, has improved their communication and thus social change. One evident product of such linkages in the resilient cities initiative under Rockefeller Foundation. These cities are designed to be able to adapt, survive and grow, regardless of what natural calamity or chronic stress they experience. There are also other sectors where the Rockefeller foundation links have been beneficial. For instance, the foundation has been of great help in supporting areas deeply affected by the AIDS epidemic ( Birn, 2014) . The move towards social change is rooted in various strategies for communication. In as much as the foundation provides financial aid, they encourage their beneficiaries to be in charge of the change process. By doing so, the communities feel empowered. Also, the foundation emphasizes the results being realized not at an individual or community level, but at a national level.

Putting all these factors into consideration, it is correct to conclude that the Rockefeller Foundation is not only effective but also efficient. The board of trustees who run the organization are in charge of strategic planning. Considering the links they have made and the results drawn from these links, it is evident that they are doing a remarkable job. In other words, they continue to live up to the mission of the organization, which is enhancing the well-being of humanity.
