The role and objective handed to the IEEE

The IEEE is an abbreviation for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. As a well-recognized organization, IEEE is comprised of scientists, engineers as well as students with the mandate of creating and influencing industry standards in the engineering, electronics and also the computing industries. The IEEE got formed in January, 1 st 1963 having a total of 150,000 members (IEEE, 2018). Essentially, through the IEEE and the included members, there is the focus on inspiring the realization of a global community that is very innovative in creating a better world by applying the relevant technological and computing information. Hence, with the role and objective handed to the IEEE, the ensuring of ethical standards in operations is important. The IEEE hence keeps on striving to attain the highest integrity standards while conducting businesses in a very responsible and ethical manner. 

The most vital ethical guideline example in the IEEE operations is the Code of Ethics Number 08, which says in verbatim “to treat fairly all persons and to not engage in acts of discrimination based on race, religion, gender, disability, age, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression” (IEEE, 2018). From the code of ethics no. 8, the IEEE hence gives its members the duty of acting in an ethical way while doing operations within the jurisdictions of technology, computing and engineering. As an engineer or computer scientist, it is mandatory to act fairly and treat others in the same fair way while working. Also, the IEEE prohibits the indulgence in discrimination activities as well as encourages its members to act responsibly as opposed to treating other unfairly due to their race or gender. In essence, by following the fair treatment ethical guidelines set by the IEEE, there is the overall realization of a professional organization that meets the needs of the society.
