Intercultural communication involves several limitations, for instance, anxiety and ethnocentrism. Individualism and “being” are additional insights of moving toward effective intercultural communication. Cultures that value individualism emphasizes individual goals and independence over the whole group. People focus most on personal passions, pursuits, and goals. Groups and families are more exclusive and limited. A culture that values collectivism expect people to view themselves as a society, and in this case, social groups and families are more inclusive and broader. Cultures that value “being” focus on being in the world. This means that valuing concepts and understanding the world rather than trying to alter or exploit the world to be in a particular view. People whose culture values “being” often value understanding others and live with them in peace and harmony instead of trying to change the world to suit their own beliefs.
