Moreover, during the outbreak of war in Iran, major media sources like the Huffington Post, the Times, CNN, and The Guardian relied on digital feeds from non-professional news reporters in Iran.

Social media has had a great impact on my profession as a journalist. Today, I often first meet a breaking news story not via a print newspaper but through my Google Plus, Twitter and Facebook accounts. Since I discovered the power of social media, I have stopped looking at them as competition, and I will not take advantage of these viral communication platforms.
One obvious reason for me as a journalist to do so is because of the wider audience that social media sites offer. As for me, the opportunity for a flexible lifestyle is appealing. Also, as a journalist, let us say a reporter or an editor, I can directly interact with my viewers and readers through these sites and even ask them the kind of stories that would be appealing to them. Recently, I was inspired by the tweets and posts that I read, and as a result, I developed good story ideas for my upcoming pieces. In fact, even print publications can increase their viewership and readership by creating an online presence.
I have joined the new media journalism bandwagon, and I am not turning back. I have realized that social media sites will also help me throughout my coursework. I will use them to improve and develop my contributions over the second half of the semester. For instance, when I am given class assignments, I can research on these sites to get better essay idea. Then, after writing my class assignments and essay I, do not have to look for my professor to hand in my work physically. Instead, I would just submit the work through MY Google Docs account. I might be a talented journalist, but to succeed in the journalism industry, I must adapt and evolve just like the media that I am using to spread my stories.
