The belief in the presence of supernatural powers or being(s) has been universal for human beings over several millennia. People from various ethnicities have culturally, traditionally or even adaptively ascribed supreme importance to individual entities. It is these entities that are attributed as the source of life, creation and the determiners of the future. The above are some of the most crucial aspects of existence to most people; explaining the importance of religion Nevertheless, every religion is mostly unique. For this reason, cohesion among people from different religious and sometimes ethnic backgrounds, calls for the acceptance and the appreciation of their beliefs regardless of our own beliefs. Sometimes this recognition can lead to one learning a few things about the world, at least in the other person’s religious point of view. The following looks at how we can attain positive results from interacting with people of various religious backgrounds.
The contemporary world is often referred to as a global village regarding the interactions between people of diverse geographical and cultural backgrounds. The need for the attainment of skills necessary for the appreciation of the religious differences that people have has, as a result, become even more paramount. The aspect of religion in people’s lives gives them hope and peace of mind. The belief that a higher entity is vouching for your success and that the same body will take care of your being after death is the general way that all religions give hope about the future and peace about the eventuality of our beings. For a human being to lead a purposeful life, hope and expectation for the future are the two of the most crucial aspects of life. Religion tends to do more than that; it gives hope for the future and an explanation for the past. It is for these reasons that many cultures have adopted a religion or a belief system that is culturally intertwined (Krause, Shaw & Liang, 2011).

My interaction with people who choose Islam as their faith has, for example, taught me a lot regarding understanding a few religious practices synonymous with their faith. Helping a Muslim in need has, therefore, become easier. I, for instance, used to find it a little awkward that some women of Islam faith would cover up a large proportion of their bodies, sometimes leaving just the eyes. It was not until I got to understand the value that the Muslim faith bestows upon the female body and the institution of marriage that I became accustomed to the practice. My interactions with female Muslims who wear hijabs has, as a result, become more comfortable. The subconscious judgmental attitude that came with new religious custom is no more. A Muslim student seeking help from me now gets help and not judgment.
This understanding of Islam has further enriched my aspect of the universe and life as a whole. The knowledge of the stars and other heavenly bodies as is intertwined in the practice of Islam has given me more than just the scientific knowledge of space. Islam uses various astronomical features to understand the as well as know the timing of some of the religious practices. A Muslim religious scholar whose passion is astronomy will, therefore, have a great time learning the religion as it has a lot of knowledge in the field. Islam is attributed with the birth of modern astronomy (Stirone, 2017)
