The role that coaching plays in enhancing the performance of employees cannot be overstated. Through coaching, employees are able to gain the skills that they need to fulfill their mandate. While all employees can benefit from coaching, its impact is most profound for employees who are new to a particular job. When offered coaching, the new employees gain insights and perspectives that allow them to meet the required standards. Personally, I find that coaching is an indispensable tool that all firms should adopt.
There are various coaching models. In selecting a model, firms should ensure that it is in line with the coaching needs and the objectives that the coaching is designed to accomplish. Skills coaching is one of the most commonly applied methods. As the name suggests, this method is concerned with equipping an employee with the skills that they need to excel in their jobs. The main advantage of this method is that it is adaptable and can be implemented when the need arises (“Types of Coaching”, n.d). Essentially, when they adopt skills coaching, firms are able to meet the needs of individual employees while still pursuing general organizational needs. Currently, I serve as an aircraft mechanic. One of the duties that I am expected to perform is to train others. I feel unprepared for this duty since I am new to the job. However, I am convinced that through skills coaching, I will gain the perspectives, skills and knowledge that I need to train others.

To excel as coaches, individuals need to possess certain skills, competencies and personality traits. Some of the skills that define exceptional coaches include consistency, commitment, organization, the ability to offer feedback, fairness, adjustability, patience, and being realistic (Domanski, n.d). After a review of my skills and personality, I have determined that I would make a good coach. The survey results that in general, I am a capable leader. In particular, I possess integrity, professional expertise, the ability to innovate and I am highly driven. I feel that these skills and traits will be essential in my role as a coach. For example, using innovation and professional expertise, I will be able to pass on the skills and knowledge that I possess.
