I used divided attention to view the video. I chose to concentrate on the people who were wearing white so that I could count the number of passes they made.

When applying the focused attention, it is hard to count the number of passes that were being made by the people wearing black. It could disrupt when counting, which meant losing some passes. I had to concentrate only on the people wearing white, and that is why it was easy to miss anything that had black, including the gorilla.

When using scanning attention, I had to conduct a background scan of what was happening at the scene. The first thing was the identification of what the people were wearing. Some are wearing white and other blacks, which means they are two teams passing the ball. In addition, the scan helped to see the gorilla as it passed through the scene.

A combination of focused, scanning, and divided attention helped to understand every aspect of the video. Focused attention helped to concentrate on general features, divided attention concentrated on single factors such as white shirts and scanning helped analyze each element on its own, thus understanding the entire scene.

I saw the object, which is the gorilla in black, as it passed through the video when the balls were being exchanged, and that resulted in incorrect counting. I counted only twelve passes, and the object was responsible for disrupting me.

During the orientation attention, I scanned the whole video, and it changed with the second time where I used selective and focused attention to concentrate on the people wearing white and count the number of times they passed the ball.

The assignment has taught me the difference between focused, scanning, and divided attention. In the future, I will be able to pay attention to something better because I will apply the three types of attention to comprehend everything.
