The artwork "A Bird Steals A Fisherman" is of the significant works of Lucy Qinnuayuak, who is a graphic artist born in Kinngait, NU. The visual artist engaged in stonecutting as her primary printmaking technique to accomplish most of her graphic works. The artwork "A Bird Steals A Fisherman” is a stone-cut art with a representation of bird and fish (Qinnuayuak, 1981). The composition of the artwork was based on the situations and experiences of the artist, considering the Canadian Inuit traditional way of life. The art portrays a large bird with a dense colour catching a fish from a fisherman. The illustration of the artwork presents different themes that are significant in day to day traditional camp activities (Leroux, Jackson, and Freeman, 1994, p.79). Considering that fishing was a substantial activity in society, the illustration had a significant role in communicating the challenges that are faced by fishermen who engage in the activities.

The theme of superiority is depicted in the piece of art, considering that the giant bird is seen to have the ability to overwhelm the fisherman and take away the fish. The second theme depicted entails unfairness in society (Gustavison, 1994, p.65). The fact that the fisherman engages in the activity to fish to obtain their daily bread and feed his family, the fish, easily takes away the fish, which is unfair for the fisherman. Additionally, the illustration presents challenges faced by the fishermen, which are heartbreaking to the fishermen. The challenges leave the fishermen to be hopeless, considering the efforts involved in the day to day activities. I believe that art creates a significant reflection of the lives of people in society, based on their days to day activities and struggles that hinder sufficient growth and development.
