Concerning the 2009 attempt to bomb Northwest Airlines Flight 253, which failed, I feel that the issue reflects a policy failure. For the policy, the purpose of introducing it entailed hindering terrorists from instituting attacks to the U.S. Nonetheless, terrorists still manage to enter the country where they initiate terror within the country. For Flight 253, it served as a target for a bombing attempt during Christmas of 2009 whereby a passenger tried setting off chemical explosives, which were sewn to his underwear (Shane, 2017) . The terrorist, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, aged 23 years failed in detonating the explosives properly with some passengers helping in putting off the fire and restraining Abdulmutallab. For the policy, it failed to work since the passenger managed to board the flight with the systems put in place failing to detect the bomb. Reports reveal that the U.S. acquired intelligence concerning a powder bomb, which a Nigerian man based in Yemen, planned on detonating on the plane (New America, 2018) . Initially, claims of the policy being effective prevailed arguing that the systems put in place worked while illustrating the security approaches that the U.S. and foreign governments adopted after the attack. Nonetheless, the passengers in the plane served the ones that assisted in putting of the fire and retraining the terrorist. However, I would argue that the system failed to work since Abdulmutallab managed to board the plane with the explosives while the U.S. failed in hindering the bombing attempt (Liscouski & McGann, 2016) . Thus, from my perspective, I would argue that the policy should ensure to place the systems in all public areas to ensure that people remain safe while undertaking their daily activities.
