The United Nations mission is founded on restoring peace through peace building and conflict prevention measures such as peacekeeping operations in its members’ states that experience conflicts (United Nations, 2019). The peacekeeping mission is facilitated by the United Department of Peace Operation. Another significant mission addressed by the United Nations is political missions and good offices management. Through the United Nations Department of Political and Peace building, the United Nations strives to engage political oppositions that may bring about conflicts in their respective nations.
The formation of the United Nations was solely to ensure worldwide peace and general security among its member states. This was explicitly designed to be achieved through its ability to enforce international laws. Another significant function of the United Nations is to develop a peaceful relationship among its members (United Nations, 2016). This is to guarantee that it directs its efforts by involving itself in issues that may impact on the peaceful co-existence of nations. The last essential function of the United Nations is promoting cooperation between countries to solve social, economic, cultural, and general humanitarian, social problems.

Issues of State Sovereignty
Every United Nations member state has been obliged with the responsibility to ensure that they prevent conflict and protect human rights. However, the United Nations may be forced to involve itself in where state members cannot solve their problems. The United Nations, therefore, respects the sovereignty of its members’ states but may intervene in internal issues that threaten international peace. According to Magstadt, a state is the sole source of its sovereignty as it has the mandate to fully practice authorities within its borders (Magstadt, 2017) This is an implication that issues of state sovereignty are left to the member state unless in occasion that they lack the capacity to deal with the problem, or it threatens the international peace is when United Nations will seek to intervene.
