Issues of State Sovereignty
Every United Nations member state has been obliged with the responsibility to ensure that they prevent conflict and protect human rights. However, the United Nations may be forced to involve itself in where state members cannot solve their problems. The United Nations, therefore, respects the sovereignty of its members’ states but may intervene in internal issues that threaten international peace. According to Magstadt, a state is the sole source of its sovereignty as it has the mandate to fully practice authorities within its borders (Magstadt, 2017) This is an implication that issues of state sovereignty are left to the member state unless in occasion that they lack the capacity to deal with the problem, or it threatens the international peace is when United Nations will seek to intervene.
