Safety training in the freight and railway industry is vital in order your reduce the number and frequency of accidents. There are various instructional characteristics that ensure that this program succeeds. The first aspect is that the Approaching Others About Safety(AOAS) is an out sourced program. This allows the BNSF Railway employees to get the full benefit of the training from professionals who are experienced in safety management. The trainers have the capacity to cover all aspects of safety that the team have collected from the various industries they have trained in. The company also saves time and money that their internal officers could have expended in the formulation of the training (Noe, 2017). 

Secondly, the company gets a healthy return on investment. The training reduces the number of accidents and subsequent injuries. This leads to a significant reduction in the amount of money spent on hospitalization, lost work days, replacement of staff, equipment and material damage and compensation of victims. Third, the training program provides a pre and post evaluation of the safety related accidents and incidents. The training therefore allows the company to track it's safety record and progress. Practical application of the training is also done to guarantee accuracy in application. (Sinelnikov et al., 2015).

Lastly, the training is structured according to the employee designation. The managerial staff are given an overview of the entire program in brief. This is in order for them to facilitate accurate implementation and supervision. The employees who maintain the tracks as well as the train crew are trained specifically on their station designations. Each group of workers is trained according to their work station. Finallh, new workers are trained over four days while older staff undergo refresher courses for half or full day sessions. Such a structure guarantees that the program maintains relevance for all involved.
