Travelling is one of the most important activities in our lives but most people believe that travelling for as a time-off from the hectic schedules of their daily lives. The perspective is correct since in the current economic constraints, we tend to focus more on our jobs to improve their living standards. People with these perceptions tend to classify travelling as just a vacation thus a luxury that economic constraints today tend to hinder (Pritchard, 2015). Changing such an assumption will aid in promoting cultural diversity, improving our worldview, and enhancing the value of the domestic living standards among other human rights that we take for granted.
According to Mark Twain as quoted by Pritchard, (2015),
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime. (Pritchard, 2015).

The quote demonstrates the value of travelling and learning from the different experiences that we can never learn from school or books. There are various ways of undertaking similar activities depending on one’s culture which we tend to use in the daily stereotyping of the people. Travelling and integrating with the different cultures either domestically or internationally, we can learn and understand them (Pritchard, 2015). Globalization calls for integrating with different cultures which can be boosted via travelling.
The different perceptions of people from different geographical and cultures make us change our way of thinking and worldview. A visit to countries that tend to marginalize their citizens makes an individual appreciate the ability of his/her country’s efforts to promote equality and respect human rights (Pritchard, 2015). The appreciation enhances patriotism and negativity. It is evident that the more we travel, the more we limit our prejudice by gaining knowledge and broadening our ability to view any challenge in several perspectives.
The Wessel Service-to-Scholarship for Student Veterans award values the experiences gained from undertaking studies in foreign countries for the students (Daytona Beach, 2017). The scholarship is afforded to military students to enable them to pursue studies in different fields. The program provides funds that allow studying in foreign countries which make it easier for the students to take the opportunities to further their education. The main benefit of the program is to ensure that the students learn to associate and integrate with civilians in a different manner than what they experience during military missions abroad (Daytona Beach, 2017). People elsewhere tend to view soldiers differently and may be afraid of them for being in their country during the war. These periods come with insults and hatred, but in the real sense, such people are friendly and appreciate foreigners in different situations. As a soldier, the student will learn more about the people and get to appreciate them. The student will get the change to integrate with people he/she thought they would never unite for, instance, an Iraqi and an American soldier.
As an education student, I believe that having the opportunities to experience and learn from people from different cultures will aid in my education, life, and relationship with other people. The social integration in a global community as helped by globalization will enhance my ability to have an open-mind and ability to handle different challenges.
