The theory of self-perception involves the study of opinions, forming impressions, and inferences towards individual or groups. In explaining the theory of self-perception, I will focus on two research studies. The first study is applying self-perception theory in explaining resident attitude about tourism development through travel histories, and the second study is facebook and self-perception: people susceptibility concerning negative social association on Facebook.

The purpose of this study research is to introduce the self-perception theory in tourism literature to explain how residents express their attitudes towards tourism development. Also, the study focuses on explaining the role of Travel Use History (TUS) in explaining attitudes toward tourism development (Woosnam et al., 2018) . The methods used in this study involved data collection and sampling using a multi-stage cluster sampling to collect data in Texas home resident over a five-weekend period. Also, survey measurement and data analysis involved the application of seventeen items from Tourism Impact Attitude Scale (TIAS). The research finding in the first study indicated that self-perception in travel use history shows is a powerful tool in explaining resident’s attitudes towards tourism and travel. Also, residents who were infrequent travellers portrayed less support to tourism than the frequent and intermediate travellers (Woosnam et al., 2018)

Facebook And Self-Perception: People Susceptibility Concerning Negative Social Association on Facebook.

Th e purpose of this study is to identify to which extent Facebook give s the impression that other people are doing better than us (De Vries & Kuhne, 2015) . The second study conducted an online survey where two students recruited participants through social networks. The study finding established that Facebook usage is directly related increased negative social association which in turn match with undesirable self-perception and negative physical attraction (De Vries & Kuhne, 2015)

I have observed this theory when my sister who is shy and anxious always think that other people are talking about her or criticizing her which may not be the truth. Also, I have seen that particular races are associated with certain behavioral traits. Americans are regarded as intelligent, Japanese polite, Germans punctual, and Italians as creative (Maddux, 2016) . Additionally, Social interaction and social influence were seen when the groups that traveled outside the US showed same trends of travel and intermediate travelers had high agreement level compared to frequent travelers (De Vries & Kuhne, 2015) . Also, the theory increases awareness of self-interaction and social influence to outline that the positive lives and photos people posted on Facebook might be underlying lies (De Vries & Kuhne, 2015)

In conclusion, the theory of self-perception involves the study of opinions, forming impressions, or inferences towards individual or groups. The study focuses on explaining the role of travel use history (TUS) in explaining attitudes toward tourism development. The two studies show how self-perception influence others negatively or positively through social interaction and social influence. The methods used in the first study involved data collection and sampling using a multi-stage cluster sampling to collect data in Texas home resident over a five-weekend period. Survey measurement and data analysis involved the application of seventeen items from Tourism Impact Attitude Scale (TIAS). Influence of Self-perception can be seen in various fields such as countries superiority, and our daily interaction with peoples. The study found out that Americans are regarded as intelligent, Japanese polite, Germans punctual, and Italians as creative. It was also concluded that Social interaction and social influence were seen when the groups that traveled outside the US showed same trends of travel and intermediate travellers had high agreement level compared to frequent travellers.
