Born in Washington in 1934, Lee Friedlander has achieved notable milestones in his photography career. Crowned for his excellent work evident in both solo as well as group exhibitions, Lee works have gained prominence over time, an aspect that has led him to be given major documentation projects. Through significant projects such as those by Museum of Modern Art and Jeu de Paume, the freelance photographer has exemplified finesse in different ways. Personal thoughts on this individual are mainly connected to his prowess regardless of the fact that he had dropped out of school in the early stages of a photography course, making most of the skills he acquired in street photography self-taught. 

Most of the Photographs by Lee depicts the life of Americans at the time they were taken. The above is mainly because they were taken in their natural environment, taking care not to disturb the serenity around them. The photographer travelled all over America capturing scenes that many would otherwise ignore. This is, for example, exemplified by the photographs of the small televisions that gained prominence between 1962 and 1963. His documentation style that included the television and the city it was found in at the time depict the trend and the popularity of such gadgets at the time.

With numerous exhibitions, recognition as well as being trusted with notable projects, the artist must be a person who has established his career on a level that many other prominent photographers who are actively involved in photography have not. With a Doctor of arts from Yale University as well as the University of Pennsylvania, the above artist has combined knowledge learned from these prestigious institutions with that learned throughout his career to polish his work. It is worthwhile to note that mentorship from Edward Kaminski in Lee's early days of photography must have greatly molded him. In numerous occasions, he was awarded the National Endowment for the Arts Grant due to his epic works. Besides, he has received several awards such as Edward McDowell and medal of the city of Paris. His exhibitions in major museums such as SFMOMA and Museum of Fine Arts in Boston also exemplify his prowess. It is worthwhile to note that most of his displays were solo. Closely related to the above, The Museum of modern art acquired 1000 prints of the artist's work. The director of the museum at the time, Glenn D. Lowry asserted that it was not possible to represent the deep achievement of the artist’s work through the acquisition of a few of hundreds of his work. 

Lee Friedlander’s diversification in terms of the subjects that his photography covers, show how intricate the artist is to detail as well as his wide interest that has fascinated most of his audience. The artist is known for different types of monographs, self-portraits and numerous other images that represented themes that spanned from street related activities or housing to indoor related themes. These were represented as actual objects, shadows or a reflection of the object itself. Besides, most of them were taken from his car, giving the photos a unique frame that could otherwise be confused for amateurish work by those who do not understand his photography styles. Also, most of the most of his street themed photographs capture small details that make them unique. 

In conclusion, Lee’s art is not only an inspiration but also work that shows the deep-seated photographic skills by the above individual. His ability to capture small details, represent his work in different exciting themes and viewpoints are some of the attributes that have contributed to his recognition by different stakeholders. The above has also been contributed towards by his epic exhibitions, most of which are solo ones.
