Nicotine is a stimulant made by several plants, including tobacco plants, among the world's most used drugs. This essay explores the use of nicotine products, their effects, and trends in vaping.
The use of nicotine products should be regulated. Nicotine and tobacco products are not only addictive, but they are as deadly as heroin and cocaine ("Drug Policy," n.d.). Besides, the manufacturers understand its harmful effects, yet they continue to lie to the public. Also, the marketing of the products targets adults and children who become regular users when they turn 18. I believe that the purchase and use of nicotine products should be illegal for any person under 21. All states should set the minimum age at 21 and not 18.

Continuous use of nicotine products alters the brain parts dealing with self-control and stress leading to addiction. The drug stimulates the brain's pleasure centers making an individual associate the product with feeling good (Pogun & Arman, 2021) . On the body effects, nicotine increases the blood pressure and heart rate flow of blood. This causes hardening of the arteries, which may lead to a heart attack. In terms of behavior, nicotine improves concentration and memory. In addition, it raises the sensation of wakefulness which decreases anxiety.
Some of the trends in vaping include a rise in the demand for flavored vaping devices. Some consumers demand pure flavors, while others search for combinations. The popularity of nicotine salts is also on the rise. There has been an emergence of nic salts and e-juices. Also, vaping devices continue to be smaller with technological advancement. Companies manufacturing vaping devices are expected to develop smaller devices that will be easy to use. Some of the health issues associated with nicotine include cancer, lung diseases, diabetes, stroke, and heart disease.
In conclusion, the use of nicotine and tobacco products has risen sharply over the last few years despite its harmful effects on both adults and children. The government should act by setting restrictions to regulate the use of nicotine.
